I did my second LINK Internship with a graphic designer in town, Sara Strum. She owns her own design business, OSO Creative. She does tons of logo designs, advertising, and mixed media.
Due to COVID-19 my project had to be shifted slightly. We were originally planning to create a design and then screen print a bunch of shirts to sell and donate money. Since we were unable to be within 6 ft of each other we were unable to screen print the shirts, and the next best thing was to continue with the design and transfer it into illustrated as if we were going to screen print
Through this internship I feel like I really got an idea of the creative process behind any kind of design. It was a lot harder then I was expecting and not the way I initially work as a creator. I tend to think about the final product before gathering all the pieces to make it what it is. I think the design I ended up with was something I can be really proud of. It was nothing like I visioned when I came to Sara with my first round of ideas on the first day and that is something I'm very thankful for. One challenge I had was communication. Once life started getting busy and I was trying to juggle a lot of balls I kind of let my internship slip a little bit. Moving forward I would love to stay in this field. I'm planning to major in communication design and hopefully have a career in this field. I would love to work with Sara again (if I can work on my communication!!) I think she is a wonderful mentor and I know there is still so much I can learn from her.
